This is a special treat! Sea of Clouds is a bug-bitten High Mountain Oolong.
The tea-maker who crafts this oolong on Jianshi Mountain is always making rich and bold teas, and this year they took full advantage of their unexpected help. Even from the first sip you can taste the natural honey sweetness that comes from one of tea culture’s most storied collaborations. The leaf-hopper and tea-farmer were originally at odds, but now they work together to produce bug-bitten teas with the intricate sweetness of amber honey. Most bug-bitten teas are oxidized to make red oolong, like the Braggart’s Tea we enjoy from time to time. The Sea of Clouds is quite a rare treat when you think of it, a bug-bitten Taiwanese High Mountain Oolong. It’s the first of its kind that I’ve tried.
When the leaf-hoppers chomp on the tea leaves, the plant’s natural response is to excrete a sweet enzyme to attract the leaf-hoppers’ predators. That enzyme is what gives the tea its honey flavor. The farmer crafts the tea as usual, as long as there is enough leaf remaining. Unpredictable, there is no way to foresee when these tiny teammates will arrive.
Rich, deep, vibrant, it has a punchy fruity soup that accompanies the cozy energy and velvety feel. Boisterous moments and glimmers of gentleness overlap and envelop the drinker.
