About Mark

My name is Mark Mohler, also known as Sanguine Teapots on digital media. I am a full-time craft potter, focused on teaware. I currently reside in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

I’m passionate about local clays and materials. Ceramic work should reflect the place where it is made. Local geology forms the character of the material and informs how best to accentuate its strengths and weaknesses. I’m currently working in Lizella, a local single source clay from Georgia, and tile 6 kaolin, an industrial export of the State.

I have been a potter since 2007. I studied at the University of Georgia for four years, and completed a year long work-study in Taiwan under Peter Kuo.

Mark Mohler has been a longtime collaborator of Via Tiempo. We bought our first set of gaiwans from him—white clay with yellow lids—when he was running kilns in Seattle, then followed his journey to Taiwan, receiving teaware along the way. We've continued to receive and commission his work ever since.

His pots are an elegant exploration of ease and functionality. In Via Tiempo parlance, the form itself conveys contemplative life to its user without a word.

In recent years, Via Tiempo has commissioned and co-designed various wares inspired by the seasons, contemplative life, and, of course, cookies.
